Known for its email marketing origins, DATRAN MEDIA has adapted well to new channels and today added contextual banners ads with with today's acquisition of ad-serving company Chintano for what the company's former-president says was a $30M deal. Four months back Datran launched a cost-per-acquisition ad exchange at EO.com.
Chintano is a small ad network that built a contextual ad server. Launched in April 2006, Chintano says it is serving approximately 100M ad impressions per month. Chintano says it has developed patent pending automatic categorization technology which "provides contextual and behavioral targeting, and revenue maximization based on intelligent analysis of content, user preferences, and ad performance in real time."

Chintano's President, Nathaniel McNamara, left in December to join HIG Capital as an associate. The founder and CEO Ramesh Haridas had previously launched PrivacyBank.com, an online wallet company that they ultimately sold to InfoSpace who took our technology and integrated it into their mobile and online commerce solution. He also currently runs a small venture firm called Russian Hill Ventures.
