Web TV Firm Joost Raises $45 Million | AlwaysOn
Internet television start-up Joost said it had received about $45 million in financing from five backers. The investors include venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures as well as media companies Viacom Inc. and CBS Corp. Each of the backers have taken a minority stake in the company. The Luxemburg-based company was founded in 2006 by the creators of Skype and Kazaa. It operates an ad-supported broadband TV service and has programming deals with Viacom, CBS, and Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros.
